Gender Action for Peace and Security

GAPS UK is a working group of peace and development NGOs, academics and grassroots peace builders who facilitate and monitor the meaningful inclusion of gender perspectives in all aspects of UK policy and practice on peace and security. Their work is based on building on the UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which ensures the stereotype of women as victims is not enforced and sees women’s roles in conflict as more complex. It is therefore vital women are part of the peace building process and reconstruction of communities.

Men and women are affected differently by conflict and being sensitive to this can have a major impact on sustainable peace. GAPS work includes being the bridge between the realities of women at local level in (post) conflict affected countries and UK decision makers and practitioners. The ultimate goal is to achieve gender equality and sustainable peace.
