The world’s most dangerous countries to be a woman

This week Trust Law, part of the Thomson Reuters Foundation, published its Danger Poll. The results of which reveal the five most dangerous countries to be a woman. The survey considered six risks: health threats, sexual violence, non-sexual violence, cultural or religious factors, lack of access to resources and trafficking.

The survey identified Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Pakistan, India and Somalia as the top most dangerous countries for women in 2011. Afghanistan has the world’s highest maternal mortality rate and 87% of Afghan women are illiterate. It was DRC’s extremely high rates of rape that put it into second place.

The info-graphics of the results can be found here, or a more in-depth analysis is available here.

  • It is a very sad state of affairs. Cruelty towards women should be curbed by all means.
