Book Share with Afghanistan

WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Two active organizations in Afghanistan, YOUNG WOMEN FOR CHANGE and INTELLECTUAL YOUTHS, are holding a book drive from now until November 1st! Kindly send us your books, DVDs, and other educational media for the women and youths of Afghanistan to use! This project is designed to provide Afghans with informative and motivational books and bring the people from different parts of Afghanistan together through sharing books. The women and youth of Afghanistan will be grateful to you.

WHO WE ARE:

Young Women for Change (YWC) is one of the premier Afghan women’s advocacy movements founded by Afghan women for Afghan women. In addition to awareness programs, we have held the very first anti-street harassment march in Afghan history, and will be conducting the first ever large-scale study of sexual harassment in Afghanistan soon. Additionally, we work towards women’s empowerment and increasing their access to education. As part of this, we require books and documentaries! Your donation will make an enormous difference in the lives of Afghan women!

Intellectual Youths, formed in 2010 to serve the people of Helmand, is dedicated to increasing access to education for youths in one of the most under-served regions of Afghanistan. We are initiating to establish a public library in Lashkargah City in Helmand, which will serve the underprivileged youth of our area. Filling this library with books and resources will not only give these youths access to educational opportunities they didn’t have before, but will go a long way in establishing peace in our region.

WHAT TO SEND:

That documentary about the Civil Rights movement that you have laying around? Send it! That Jane Austen classic, or Hegel essay or any classic work that’s sitting on your bookshelf? Send it! A book that helped you learns reading and the alphabet? Send it! These books WILL be read and used many, many times by Afghan women and youths for years to come. Your contribution will make a huge difference in improving education and promoting peace. The books can be in Dari, Pashto or English.
