ACT NOW: Join The Twitter Takeover To End Extreme Hunger
On 10 December 2011 – International Human Rights Day – thousands of people joined the Africans Act for Africa campaign on Twitter, where they called on African leaders to respond to the ongoing food crisis in the Horn of the Africa and endorse the Charter to End Extreme Hunger. The movement quickly gathered momentum; the hashtag #lastfamine became the trending topic on Twitter in Kenya, and the Presidents of Tanzania and Rwanda responded favourably to the calls to action.
