Green Scarves for Solidarity – Photowall

Thank you to everyone who showed solidarity with Afghan women for the Bonn conference. The last conference like this was in London 2009; no women were in the Afghan Government delegation, and the conference statement was weak on mentions of women’s rights or civil society.

This year at Bonn we saw a real shift in terms of the priority given to women’s rights. The Afghan Government had 11 women and 39 men – this is 22% women. The conference outcomes document speaks about protecting women’s rights, civil society and upholding the constitution. The words are there – but now we need to keep supporting Afghan women until this rhetoric becomes reality.
