Colombia

For the last 50 years Colombia has been in the midst of an armed conflict between guerrillas, paramilitaries and government forces. This conflict has been fierce especially in the civilian population, and the list of violations of human rights and breaches of International Humanitarian Law committed by all these actors is endless. The Colombian state’s response to these crimes has fostered impunity.

For years, all armed actors have used sexual violence against women as a weapon of war. This type of violence, a crime against humanity, is one of the most serious violations of human rights committed during the conflict in Colombia and has remained invisible, both within and outside the country.
